To all my readers "I Wish You Enough"

You may have read this already, as I’ve read it several times in forwarded e-mails, but brought on a little different meaning as I read it today . . .
I Wish You Enough

Recently at an airport, I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together. They had announced her departure and standing near the security gate, they hugged and he said, “I love you, I wish you enough.”She in turn said, “Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed, I wish you enough too, Daddy.” They kissed and she left.

He walked over toward the window where I was seated. Standing there, I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?”

“Yes, I have,” I replied, “forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?” I asked.

“I am old and she lives much too far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is, the next trip back would be for my funeral,” he said.

“When you were saying good-bye I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough’, may I ask what that means?”

He began to smile. “That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.” He paused for a moment and looking up as if trying to remember it in detail, he smiled ever more. “When we said, ‘I wish you enough,’ we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them,” he continued and then turning toward me he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Good-bye.”

Tears filled his eyes and he walked away.
And so,
I wish you enough.

Aromatherapy Quote:

“Aromatherapy [utilizing therapeutic grade essential oils] is one of the most powerful yet safe healing modalities we have today. It should be considered much more in healing.” (Terry Friedmann, M.D., 1993)  www.MyAncientOils.com

The Use of Essential Oil During War Time

Dr. Jean Valnet, a French physician, began using essential oils during World War II, using them to treat the wounds and burns of soldiers on the battle field. His subsequent research stimulated widespread interest in the use of essential oils, and his book, “The Clinical Practice of Aromatherapy”, is now regarded as a classic.

Help Jason experience 'Burning Man'

This is a Post on Tumblr, created by a young man in his early 20's with his heart set on going to Burning Man.  Jason from Ohio is 24 and although very functional, is bond to a wheelchair. Jason a determine and independent young man, and is an Electron Media Student at the University of Cincinnati.  Working hard on his studies and taking care of his 1 year old pug 'Monkey' takes up a lot of his time.

Jason is a personable, good humor young man who you can't help but like.  In spite of all his challenges, he is always smiling and joking around.  Not afraid to poke fun of himself or make light of his disability, he immediately puts others at easy.

Right now Jason is asking for your help in making a small dream come true.  Although very functional, and self reliant he it limited to the terrain that his manual chair can handle.  So he is asking for your help...

Please help send me to Burning Man next year. I'm a full time student with no money. I'm currently saving up for the ticket itself, but I need extra money to either fix up my wheelchair or get a better electric scooter to navigate the vast playa. Any thing you can do to help is appreciated. I need your Lincolns, not necessarily your Benjamins. Whatever you can/want to contribute.  I love you all.

Essential Oils and Cancer: A Review of Published Scientific Studies

The practice of 'aroma medicine', rather than the somewhat more vague 'aromatherapy', is making very strong gains in the United States. The primary reasons are twofold: Many individuals have become completely disenchanted with our current conventional medical system. We're paying HUGE amounts of money for very questionable therapies -- with many medicines having threatening health warnings (are these making us sicker while making us 'better'?) accompanying their high price tags. At the same time, people are realizing the value of 'traditional' medicines may be far greater than they've been lead to believe. That the healing power available in properly prescribed and employed natural medicines have the potential to not only alleviate the symptoms of an illness, but move the body to an equilibrium of long term health.

The Medical Uses of Essential Oils

Research into the area of medicinal applications of essential oils has been significant in recent years. Many oils have been proven to have significant antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal action. Now, the body of evidence of essential oils being strongly anti-tumorial, with specific anti-cancer action is growing, too. A search of Pub Med, the National Institute of Health's online research database produces 391 results for the search 'essential oils cancer' and 444 results for 'essential oil tumor'. MANY of the studies show a direct correlation in tumor and cancer cell line eradication with the use of essential oils. A great many have conclusions that indicate the studies results warrant further investigation of essential oils for the development of accepted therapies. Here's a review of some very promising results:

Frankincense Essential Oil Targets Cancer Cells

A study in the journal BioMed Central journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, March 2009, titled: "Frankincense oil derived from Boswellia carteri induces tumor cell specific cytotoxicity" concludes with: "Frankincense oil appears to distinguish cancerous from normal bladder cells and suppress cancer cell viability. Microarray and bioinformatics analysis proposed multiple pathways that can be activated by frankincense oil to induce bladder cancer cell death. Frankincense oil might represent an alternative intravesical agent for bladder cancer treatment." ...while a bit technical, this is very, very promising -- essentially saying that this easily obtained, inexpensive, NON-TOXIC natural compound can eradicate cancer cells without harming normal, healthy cells in the same organ. Frankincense has a long, long history of medicinal use, and searching for 'frankincense cancer' produces 30 results just for this material. If choosing an essential oil of Frankincense, the 'carteri' species has been the subject of most research, with cold-process Carbon Dioxide distilled oils considered the most therapeutic (seek CO2 or SCO2 distilled oils or extracts).

Lemongrass Essential Oil Induces Cancer Cell Death

Lemongrass, after Frankincense, may next most commonly researched essential oil for anti-cancer activity. In the May 2009 journal of Chemico-Biological Interactions, researchers tested Lemongrass essential oil against 12 human cancer cell lines. Colon cancer and neuron cancer cell lines were found most susceptible to the essential oil. The study concluded: "Our results indicate that the oil has a promising anticancer activity and causes loss in tumor cell viability by activating the apoptotic process as identified by electron microscopy." This indicates that Lemongrass may induce natural cell death of cancer cells (apoptotic process), a process that is inherently dysfunctional in cancer cells.

Sweet Linalool for Liver Cancer

Linalool is a very common essential oil constituent. Essential oils are naturally made up of many individual chemical constituents, and linalool is a sweet, relaxing aromatic found in many floral and sweeter spice essential oils. Linalool itself, separated from the essential oil of Coriander (Cilantro seeds) was the subject of research published in the June 2009 issue of the journal of Chemico-Biological interactions. Linalool was found to completely eradicate the HepG2 liver cancer cell line in VERY low concentrations. Linalool has a great many other effects, having been shown to lower anxiety and even significantly improve sleep. And now it even has anti-cancer effects! So even if one is notle directly targeting cancer, but using aromatherapy in a more 'casual' application, there may be important protective effects occurring at the same time.
Skin cancer is a major concern for many folks, and a series of studies have shown Sandalwood to be effective at preventing tumor development. Alpha-santalol, a component also shown to have anti-anxiety and sleep enhancing action, may be the constituent to which most of these effects may be attributed. This is fortunate, as Sandalwood from India is becoming more rare and expensive, though Sandalwood from Australia and other South Pacific islands is still readily available. A study published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, a formula used for containing just 5% Sandalwood essential oil used before exposure to toxins significantly reduced the formation of skin cancer tumors. A study published in January 2008 in the Journal of Anitcancer Research showed a significant reduction in tumor development in skin exposed to UVB radiation -- Sandalwood would make an excellent addition to a pre-sun body or face care formula.

The Powerful Protection of Spice Oils

Components of Thyme and Oregano essential oils have been shown to actually protect human DNA strands from breaking when exposed to extreme oxidative stress. DNA damage is a leading cause of cancer development, as this can lead to an abnormal cell life cycle, essentially turning off the process of natural cell death. Carvacrol and Thymol were singled out in a study by Slovakian researchers in 2007, though they also note that other components of these oils may have chemoprotective effects as well. Other spice essential oils that have demonstrated cancer preventative effects include Ginger, Tumeric, Basil, Garlic and Sage.

Essential Oils Offer Immune System Support

Beyond the direct effects on tumor cells, essential oils have been shown to positively effect the immune system on a chemical level. They can enhance the activity of white blood cells, making them more efficient and removing foreign material and microbes from the body. This would likely result in more effective cancer outcomes. Futher, there's the psychological component of any disease, and many essential oils have demonstrated anti-stress activity in scientific investigations.

Essential Oils as Anti Cancer Agents for the Future

So, like many plant medicines, essential oils work on a number of levels for many diseases, with cancer being one of them. While its important to recognize that essential oil use is in-fact contra-indicated during chemotherapy (as they may reduce the cytotoxic effects of the treatment), they can certainly be an integral part of any cancer preventative protocol. For any application where an individual has already been diagnosed with the illness, it is important to check with their physician to ensure essential oils and aroma-medicine is an appropriate choice. The overall picture is very bright for the use of essential oils in cancer treatment, and further investigation is certainly warranted by the scientific and medical communities for the development of effective medical protocols for this profoundly life-altering condition.

DIY - Strawberry Facial Mask

Making a Strawberry Facial mask is Fun and Easy
and the Benefits are Amazing!

Straw contains Alpha Hydroxy acid and Salycilic acid, and tons of vitamin c which are very good for the skin.  Salycilic acid and alpha hydroxy acid helps to exfoliate dead skin cells, as well as shrinks pores for brighter, healthier looking skin.  It also remove impurities, and inflammation, make this facial both cleansing and supportive to the skin.  The part is the antioxidants that strawberries contain.  They help to repair damage skin and counteract the effects of aging.

In our youth skin, our cells regenerate every 30-40 days. Unfortunately, as we enter own 30’s natural cell rejuvenation is slowed.   At this time, the skin can benefit from a strawberry facial mask.

Use at least twice a week during a longer time of at least three to six months to see lasting effects.  Here are some general tips for homemade facial masks:
  • Cleanse your face well with a toner prior to applying a mask
  • Always apply facial mask starting at the chin and jaw area in upward stroke, till your reach the forehead.  This technique helps to prevent sagging.
  • When apply the mask on the nose, start at the tip and move outward toward the cheeks. Be sure to leave space around the mouth, eyes, and eyebrows.
  • Finally, apply the mask to the neck.  Starting at the decollate area and apply upward towards the jawline.

BESTeam Feature: Crafting for the Soul

In spiritual work, meditation is very important. It keeps us grounded and sane! In order to meditate we must leave the logical world, (just for a little while) and enter a space of balance, and serenity.

For some, meditation is easily achieved; whether sitting in a chair or lying down, they can leave reality for a brief while and center themselves. Release all their tension, worries and are able to focus on what is important. For others, the thought of meditation is a nightmare. With too many thoughts to fight off and the strain of focusing to clear the mind, often result in more stress and even a headache.

But there are other ways to Meditate. For Maureen Kirchdoerfer, owner of Release Me Creations from Fort Worth, TX, crafting was a form of grounding and centering herself while her father, and Brave Knight underwent Cancer treatment. Here is Maureen’s Story…

Tiny Hand Bound Book Necklace
Vintage Almanac pages Brass Heart
Swarovski Crystal AB Pendant
In April of 2009 my Dad was diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer. Eight months later, on January 2, 2010, he passed away after an incredibly brave and difficult battle with the disease. His loss to me was, and is still a crushing blow to my heart. He was a pillar of strength in my life. But from his ordeal, I learned how important it is to take advantage of every minute we have here on this earth. It made me realize the value of appreciating everything, and everyone I have, and how fleeting our time is here. Perhaps most importantly, I realized the importance of doing in those minutes the things that make your heart happy.

I began crafting jewelry while I was staying with my parents during my father's last months of life. In my down time I needed something to channel my energies in a positive way. I needed a distraction, and a release. I suddenly felt the urge to begin crafting jewelry. Call it chance, call it coincidence, or call it fate. All I know is that creating jewelry for me has become my meditation, my peace. I put so much of myself into each and every piece, that it creates an incredible release for my heart, mind, and soul. Thus, the birth of Release Me Creations.
This enchantingly Carousel necklace features a tiny little carousel that is freely movable. the little horse silhouettes contrast beautifully against as they go round and round. A tiny pink resin rose, and a tiny glass pearl rest atop the carousel to add that perfect dainty little touch.
As you can see, meditation can be achieved through various methods.  So next time you are overwhelm with life and need to release… Meditate and creating something beautiful!

BESTeam Feature: Ardent Reverie!

Ardent Reverie is a Shop on Etsy owner by Melanie and Meghan Mina.  Two very talented sisters who messed their individual style together to creating Ardent Reverie.

These two young ladies began crafting at a young age. Their love for crafting carried on and they soon began to wonder if they could make more of their abilities and share them with other people. On October 8, 2009 they launched their Etsy store. It was a learning process to say the least and will always be a continuous learning process that will allow their shop to grow.

The first piece I would like to share with you is this adorable, Origami Crane Hair Clip!  I find it hard enough to fold an origami paper critter on crisp folder paper. Name is folding pieces of fabric and into these amazing hair Origami Hair Clips.  This is the type of piece that makes a subtle statement with a uniqueness that one can’t help with notice.

Next, I'll like to show you this beautiful 12' Paradise Cove Feather Earrings .  I have long, dark hair and most earrings disappear on me.  This however wouldn’t!  Long and beautiful but not overwhelming, it has a simplistic beauty.   This piece of jewelry say’s “you can’t help but notice me” but doesn’t yell it. Instead, they seem to frame the face and elongate the neck, bringing instant notice to you.

BESTeam Feature: JBling Collector of Children's StoryBooks

This week’s feature is on a wonderful new shop dedicate to sell vintage and classic storybooks and prints!  Jane Peyrouse is the owner of  “JBing.”  By day Jane is a marketing executive, loving wife and mother.   Although, these are all satisfying challenges Etsy and her Blog help to complete the challenges of the day. Jane Peyrouse from Somerville, Massachusett,  is an enthusiastic lover of vintage, crafts, and adventure.  She enjoys bringing together her love of the world and its incredible beauty and variety.

I really enjoy classic children’s story books and have a small collection of my own.  When I ask Jane what inspire her to open  “JBing”  a shop for vintage book?  She responded with…

I started JBing” as a tribute to my love of old style children's book illustrations. I fell in love with some of the classic books of the thirties and the great illustrations that came from that time, like The Sugar Plum Tree by Eugene Feld with illustrations by the amazing Fern Bisel Peat.
In Jane's shop “JBing”, you will find Vintage children’s Books like,

                                        “The Wonderful Adventures”
of Paul Bunyan - a 1945 First Edition.

I think this is a wonderful idea for a shop.  It provides us the opportunity to share our favorite vintage and classic stories with our children and grandchildren.  Especially, since some of these books are out of print and extremely difficult to get hold of.  When I ask Jane, “How do you acquire these books?”  Her answer was simple…

How would you like to own the 1946 illustrated Edition of:
                             “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.”
                                       This is a great find!

Over time, I think I've learned that I may love the books more than the illustrations. Living in Boston, there are tons of old books coming out of old houses of people who own big collections of books. I have a couple of reliable sources of books. I haven't really begun to list alot in my shop yet, as I am pausing to do research on the illustrators, the authors and the back story on these wonderful books. Like this Charming vintage book by Alison Uttley…
                                    “Squirrel Goes Skating”
                                     -1934 Children's Book

I’m truly looking forward to seeing this little shop grow.  To see “JBing’s” full collection of vintage and classic storybooks visit “JBing” at esty.com.
Jane also has a second shop”JVoyage” for vintage treasure.  You can learn more about Jane and her shops on her blog http://jvoyage-jvoyage.blogspot.com

Hestia - Goddess of "Sanctuary"

I just created a wonderful new item, a Therapeutic Foot Scrub soap! Going by my traditional Goddess theme, I named it after "Hestia" Goddess of Hospitality. Although the match may not seem fitting. I assure you that after learning all I could about Hestia, I think this Goddess would gracefully welcome those with tired, sore feet from a hard day's work.

Hestia is not only the goddess of hospitality, but she is also known as the originator of the concept of “Sanctuary”. Dependable and caring, Hestia was always there to helped others manage their busy lives.  It was an offense to Hestia to refuse hospitality to a stranger. It is also said that it was Hestia's sacred obligation to sheltered those in need and protected them from ill-treatment.
After a long day of being on your feet, there is nothing like a pampering foot massage. Add a luffa scrub and some peppermint essential oils and you're in heaven.
Hestia, therapeutic foot Scrub is soothing and relaxing, this pedicure soap scrub brings the spa experience right into your very home! This wonderful 2 layer soap has an embedded luffa scrub that slough away dead skin cells as it massages, soothes then washes away the stresses of the day. The bottom layer is enriched with oatmeal to moisturize the skin and relieve itching.

Then we have our Peppermint essential oil with analgesic and anesthetic properties.  These properties are great for relieving foot pain, as well as aching feet, rheumatism, neuralgia and muscular pains.

Tips and Tricks: Naturally Plump your Lips with Cinnamon!

To get fuller, luxurious lips use lip products that contain Cinnamon, Ginger, or Cayenne pepper.

Personally, I prefer Cinnamon e.o..  As you probably know all three ingredient listed above are consider hot.  When they come in contact with your lips, your lips tend to heat up increasing the circulation and blood flow to the lips giving your a plumper look with a red tinge. This effect will usually last for a couple of hours so enjoy.

To make your own lip plumping lip gloss, just mix a tiny drop of Cinnamon Leaf Oil into a lip gloss. The gloss or balm will cool the initial sting of the cinnamon, which can manifest itself as a slight “burning” sensation. When experimenting with essential oils, remember a little bit of the oil goes a long way.  Less is better!

Caution: Cinnamon can be irritating to some, so always dilute!
